Comex Turns Sustainability Into Business: ECO Line Already Represents 50% of Sales

In a recent interview, Claudia Contreras, Marketing Director at PPG Comex, shared how innovation and a focus on home living are driving the commercial success of the new ECO line.

Just three months after launch, PPG Comex’s ECO line has emerged as one of the company’s biggest success stories. According to Contreras, 50% of current sales now come from sustainable products—a clear sign of a new generation of consumers seeking color, comfort, and environmental responsibility.

“The ECO line in vinyl paints is an environmentally friendly product with lower VOCs, formulated with ingredients that protect health,” noted Contreras. “Our team of Mexican scientists is constantly developing technologies to improve life at home.”

Innovation That Delivers Tangible Benefits
Comex has taken its environmental commitment seriously. The ECO line features products made with recycled PET and antibacterial Vinimex, designed for spaces needing regular cleaning and protection.

The brand also developed waterproof coatings with thermal insulation that can reduce roof temperatures by up to 16°C and indoor temperatures by 3–4°C—helping cut air-conditioning costs and energy consumption.

“With the recent heat waves, these products offer a real solution: lower temperatures, reduced energy bills, and greater comfort. It’s a concrete way to benefit both the planet and your pocket,” emphasized Contreras.

Accessible Value Proposition
One of the main challenges for Comex was to change the perception that sustainable products come with a higher price tag.

“Our objective was to ensure that consumers didn’t see a cost barrier. That’s why we worked closely with our science and technology department—led by women—to deliver high-quality products at affordable prices,” Contreras added.

This approach to accessibility and well-being has been fundamental to Comex’s growth. By positioning the ECO line as both aspirational and practical, the company meets consumer demand for responsible products while maintaining quality and appealing design.
