Energy efficiency: Luxury is measured in kilowatts saved

Electronics & Home México

Consumers are no longer looking for the biggest refrigerator or the brightest TV they want products that save energy, money, and worries. In the midst of rising energy costs, offering efficiency is now a commercial advantage. And for exhibitors working with energy-efficient products at Electronics & Home Mexico, this is the key message: the new luxury is measured in kilowatts saved.

Talking about efficiency means talking about sales

According to GfK, 45% of smart-home consumers say their main motivation for purchasing connected technology is reducing energy consumption. They’re no longer buying gadgets they’re buying peace of mind, control, and savings.

What does the consumer want?

  • Monitor their consumption: sensors and apps that show how much energy each device uses.
  • Avoid waste: smart plugs and power strips that cut energy during standby.
  • Integrate renewable sources: compatibility with solar panels or EV chargers.
  • Control everything from their phone: convenience remains king, but savings lead the way.

Keys for exhibitors: how to sell efficiency

  • Speak the language of savings: use numbers. “Reduce your monthly consumption by 15%” resonates more than “control it through an app.”
  • Demonstrate live: show the meter dropping, the app alerting, or the lamp switching off automatically.
  • Partner with energy and sustainability: integrate panels, batteries, or electric vehicles.
  • Position your offering as conscious luxury: the new premium is what protects the environment and the utility bill.

Luxury with purpose

In the connected-home space, luxury is no longer about how many devices you own it’s about how much energy you no longer use.

Consumers want control, efficiency, and responsibility and the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers who demonstrate tangible savings will shine the brightest at Electronics & Home Mexico 2026.

Mexico: where the electricity bill drives purchasing decisions

Thirty-nine percent of national electricity consumption comes from the residential sector (MDPI, 2021), and the average Mexican household uses 2,055 kWh per year (FIDE). In other words, any appliance or device that helps reduce that number has a guaranteed market.

HVAC systems account for 60% of household consumption, so offering products that optimize their use such as sensors, plugs, or smart thermostats can be the differentiating factor in a booth.

After all, efficiency doesn’t just sell it pays for itself.
